Our story

A short history

LASTMA was set up in July 2000 to close the gap created by inadequate traffic management at the time. The agency is supervised by the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation and is backed by legislation of the Lagos State House of Assembly, the latest being the Lagos State Transport Sector Reform Law of 2018.

From those beginnings, LASTMA has grown into a state-wide service organised around zonal commands, area commands and specialised units. The mandate has stayed the same. Keep Lagos moving, reduce accidents and treat every road user with fairness.

A Lagos State Government agency

LASTMA operates under the Lagos State Ministry of Transportation. We never collect payment on this website. Fines are paid only through official Lagos State channels.
